Keukenhof or also known as the "Flower Garden of Europe" and is one of the most famous and second largest flower park in the world. Located near the town of Lisse (Lisse) - South Holland. It covers an area of 32 hectares and every year 7 million new various flowers are plented. From an aerial perspective they look as spacious floral carpets in different colors.

HISTORY

Palace in Keukenhof e built in 1641 and today occupies an area of about 200 hectares. On Dutch Keukenhof means "vegetable garden" (kitchen garden). Primary its purpose was to be a source of herbs used in the kitchen of the castle of Jacqueline, Countess of Teylingen.

Flower garden in Keukenhof was founded in 1949 by the mayor of Lisse with 20 growers of flowers. The doors of the park are open to the public in 1950 with a total of 236,000 visitors only in the first year. Today's shape and appearance of the park dates back to the distant 1857 and was created by the famous architect Jan David Zocher.

ATTRACTION

The park consists of many gardens and four pavilions where the whole history and tradition of Tulip cultivation in the Netherlands. The best time to visit the park is from the middle of March till the end of May when the flowers are in full blossom. In the park there is a fantastic collection of: tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, orchids, roses, carnations, irises, lilies and many other flowers. You will be overwhelmed by a spectacle of colors and perfumes.

Exhibitors participating in the decoration of the Garden Keukenhof are part of Dutch manufacturers that are currently around 90. Every manufacturer is granted a defined area for decoration. These areas are with different flower arrangements that is why there is no corner that is similar to another. Keukenhof is one of the major tourist attractions in the Netherlands and annually attracts about 800 000 visitors from around the world. Theme of this year's exhibition "Van Gogh - 125 years of inspiration."
